Guide to Residential Living

Residential Living

Your residence hall will not only be “home” for nine months of the year, but it also will be an important part of your learning experience at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Here you will have the opportunity to share your ideas. As part of a group, you will be able to plan programs—recreational, educational and cultural—from which you and others can benefit. Just as families share responsibilities and show consideration, so do members of a residence hall community. You must respect other hall residents, be considerate of their study and sleeping needs and do your part to keep the hall clean and safe. The more you contribute to your hall community, the more you will get out of your residence hall experience.

Residential Living

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh offers students a wide variety of lifestyle options to meet the diverse needs and interests of residents, including co-educational halls, a freshman-only complex and a designated substance-free floor. All halls are smoke-free buildings that have 24- hour “open” visitation. “Closed” visitation (no visitation privileges for the opposite sex) must be mutually agreed to by roommates and is self monitored. Overnight guests are welcome, as long as mutually agreed to by roommates.

Residential Living

All halls have a kitchen (except the Scott Halls), laundry room, music room, recreation room, computer lab, vending and ice machines, copy machine and floor study lounges. Most halls also have an exercise/weight room and aerobic workout areas. The cornerstone of each hall community is the Main Desk. Located on the first floor, the desk is where various hall functions are performed. These include distributing mail and hall equipment, dispensing change and stamps, informing residents of hall and University activities and providing other services. We encourage all residents to become familiar with their hall’s main desk operation. UW Oshkosh residence hall staff and residents take pride in their involvement in Homecoming, Winter Carnival and various campus and community activities.
