Residence Hall Staff
More than 100 staff members live in our residence halls to assist students. Their function is to provide advice, assist with developing the community, refer students to other University offices as needed, mediate conflicts and help plan educational, social and cultural activities to enhance the college experience.
A professional residence hall director (RHD) lives in each hall. All
directors have experience in residence hall life and an interest in and
concern for people. The director is responsible for developing and
maintaining an environment conducive to learning and positive living
experiences. In the larger halls, the RHDs are assisted by a graduate
assistant residence hall director (ARHD). On each floor is a community
adviser (CA), an undergraduate student who serves as a campus resource
person to the floor residents. The CA helps students develop a
community based on individual responsibility and respect for
others.
The Department of Residence Life includes many other staff members—hall desk staff, custodians, maintenance staff, secretaries, conference center operations staff, support staff and the department’s director and assistant directors—who work together to create an environment consistent with the goals of Residence Life and the University.
