Room Consolidation
Your Questions Answered
Some of you parents may have already been told by your son or daughter that they will be moving to another floor or even another building during the upcoming spring interim session. This might have caused a bit of alarm and anxiety for you. The purpose of this article is to better explain what is happening in the halls this spring, so that you understand the necessity of what’s going to happen.
Several of our residence halls will be consolidating its residents for
various reasons throughout the spring interim term. Three of our halls,
Breese, Nelson, and Clemans, will simply be asking some residents to
move to another floor within the building. These buildings will be used
throughout the summer for various conferences and camps, such as sports
and band camps. These camps, which bring in vital income that
subsidizes your students housing fees, will start almost immediately
after the students leave for the summer. But before the halls can be
used for camps, they need to be cleaned repaired. Closing floors will
allow staff to start working early to complete the custodial and
maintenance needs.
Another major project is occurring in North Scott hall. In accordance
with new state law, all high-rise towers must be equipped with a
sprinkler system. In order to complete this project in North Scott this
summer, work must begin immediately following the 14-week semester. At
the same time the hall will be undergoing renovations to the old
elevators. North Scott residents staying through spring interim will be
asked to relocate to the South tower.
We understand that this is certainly an inconvenience for many
students and their families, but our hope is that you understand the
importance of the consolidation process. We will try our best to make
the move for affected students as easy and stress free as possible. As
compensation, we will try to offer single rooms at no extra charge to
affected students if space allows it. The Department of Residence Life
really appreciates your patience and understanding in these matters.
