Moving Out Made Easy
It is almost the end of the school year and it’s time to start thinking about moving your son/daughter out of the residence halls! UW Oshkosh has simplified the check-out process for students leaving at the end of the semester. Express check-out is completed independently by the resident. The resident does not need to make an appointment with a staff member. All that your son/daughter needs to do is empty and clean their room, place their room keys in the express checkout envelope that will be provided by their CA, and drop it off at the express checkout box located at the front desk. Once the buildings have closed on Friday, May 17th at 8pm, the staff will be going back through the rooms to inspect for any damages. Below are some tips that will help your son/daughter prepare their room for checkout and avoid being charged for repairs or extra clean up:
-
If your student is not staying for Spring interim , s/he will need to move out of the room by May 16th, 2008 at 8 PM.
-
Failure to check out of the hall according to the XPress Check-out procedures will result in a $25 charge for improper check-out.
-
Information on the X-Press Check-out process and expectations were made available to your student at a floor meeting, on floor bulletin boards, and in information pamphlet provided by Residence Life.
-
Students will need to clean their room prior to check-out. Limited cleaning supplies are available to students. Cleaning includes: vacuuming and dusting the room, removing decorations, posters, markings, etc from all surfaces, and defrost and clean the microfridge unit.
-
Because there are limited cleaning supplies available, we recommend bringing cleaning supplies such as window cleaner, dusting spray, cleaning cloth/rag, and a small vacuum.
-
Students must leave the ResNet cord, TV cord, and HUBS in the room. All furniture must be retuned to its original location.
-
If you have a rental loft, it must be returned to Lot 32 during one of the designated return times: Thursday, May 8th 3-7pm or Friday, May 9th 9-5pm
-
It is important to double check the room in order to prevent left behind items. We recommend checking drawers, under the bed, the closets and the top of bookshelves for items. Left behind items will be held for 30 days and then disposed of properly.
-
Common Area Damage (CAD) is assessed for damages, lost property, or unnecessary service costs to the resident halls through accident, neglect or intent. If the responsible person cannot be found, the damages are split between each resident in the affected living environment.
-
A bill will be sent to each student with the charges and an explanation soon after check outs are completed by staff.
If you or your son/daughter has questions about XPress checkout please feel free to contact the Residence Hall Director or the Department of Residence Life

Room Consolidation. Your Questions Answered
Some of you parents may have already been told by your son or daughter that they will be moving to another floor or even another building during the upcoming spring interim session. This might have caused a bit of alarm and anxiety for you. The purpose of this article is to better explain what is happening in the halls this spring, so that you understand the necessity of what's going to happen.
Student leaders on the UW Oshkosh campus bid and were awarded the NACURH conference to be held at the end of interim. NACURH is a national leadership conference for college students and is completely run by college students who currently attend UW Oshkosh. It is a great honor to be able to host this national conference. The 2700 students who will be attending the conference will be housed on campus and so we are asking current students to move for interim, so that we can clean and prepare for these students. The department will also be getting into some buildings early to do repairs and upgrades to the buildings.
We understand that this is certainly an inconvenience for many students and their families, but our hope is that you understand the importance of the consolidation process. We will try our best to make the move for affected students as easy and stress free as possible.. The Department of Residence Life really appreciates your patience and understanding in these matters.
