Student Health Center
Students attending classes at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (UW Oshkosh) have access to the services available at the Student Health Center. Each student pays a segregated fee along with their tuition which covers the cost of most office visits and lab work done within the Student Health Center.
Hepatitis-B Fact Sheet
Hepatitis B is a serious infectious disease
caused by a virus that attacks the liver. The hepatitis B virus (HBV)
can cause life-long infection that leads to cirrhosis (scarring) of the
liver, liver cancer, or liver failure. There is no cure for hepatitis
B, but the infection can be prevented by vaccination. In 2001, about
78,000 people were infected with the virus.
Meningitis Fact Sheet
Meningococcal meningitis is a potentially life-threatening bacterial infection caused by Neisseria meningitides, a leading cause of bacterial meningitis in older children and young adults in the United States. The disease most commonly is expressed as either meningococcal meningitis, an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, or meningococcemia, a serious infection of the blood.
Meningitis and Hepatitis B Receipt
Effective January 1, 2004 all Universities in Wisconsin are required by law to provide each student with detailed information on the risks associated with Meningitis (Meningococcal) and Hepatitis B diseases, and the availability and effectiveness of vaccines against these diseases. In addition all students living in residence halls must affirm that they have received this information. We must also affirm whether or not you have been vaccinated against the Meningitis and Hepatitis B diseases and the dates you were vaccinated. You are not required to have the vaccines.
