Senior Computer Technician

The MIO is responsible for all of Residence Life’s Technology needs. Senior Computer Technicians work with the Computer Technicians to support the hardware and software for the department, the Internet in the resident halls, as well as the computers labs located in each resident hall. During the school year Senior Computer Technicians will be focusing on trouble shooting resident’s Internet connection and keeping the computer labs in good working condition. During the summer they mostly spend time on upgrades and cleaning throughout the department.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Answer technology related support phone calls.
  • Provide phone and in room tech support for students staying in the residence halls.
  • Continually review the ResNet Database and contact students to try to get the calls fixed as soon as possible.
  • Assist in the cleaning of all computer labs throughout the year, at least twice a week.
  • Monitor paper and toner levels for each hall to ensure they always have enough of each.
  • Install and upgrade of computer hardware and software for the department of Residence Life.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software for the department of Residence Life.
  • Maintain, organize and clean computer equipment and storage facilities with in Residence Life.
  • Research new hardware and software on off time.
  • Responsible for monitoring one of the following areas: paper and toner levels, lab cleanliness, or GCC Equipment Request
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Skills:

  • Previous experience as a Computer Technician
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Good decision-making skills.
  • Experience with desktop computing.
  • Experience in hardware installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Experience in trouble-shooting computer related problems.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

 

Schedule:

  • Works year round, full time during breaks and summer.
  • Must have a minimum of 15 hours a week scheduled, with a maximum of 20 per week.
  • Hours must be a set schedule with in the following guidelines:
  • Monday thru Thursday between 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
  • Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • For at least an hour and a half.
  • Four days a week.
  • Be willing to have a mix of morning, afternoon or evening hours if office coverage is needed.
