LAN Technician

The MIO is responsible for all of the Department of Residence Life's technology needs. The LAN team is primarily tasked with the configuration and maintenance of the department's world-class data center. The MIO data center is home to over 25 servers running the most sophisticated hardware and software available. Additionally, the LAN team is responsible for maintaining and supporting those network services and applications running on MIO hardware, including a staff user directory and enterprise e-mail system.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, update and delete network user accounts.
  • Create and maintain network shared folders and volumes.
  • Perform best practice maintenance on all equipment to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Research and evaluate new products for possible implementation.
  • Set up and maintain network computers.
  • Participate in ongoing network education.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Good decision-making skills.
  • Extensive experience with desktop computing and computing on the UW Oshkosh campus.
  • Knowledge of specific network based operating systems such as Novell, Linux, Windows Server, etc.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals and basic TCP/IP concepts.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

 

Schedule:

  • Works year round, full time during breaks and summer.
  • Must have a minimum of 17 hours a week scheduled, with a maximum of 20.
  • Hours must be a set schedule between 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM Monday thru Friday for at least an hour and a half, 4 days a week.
  • Be willing to have a mix of morning, afternoon or evening hours if office coverage is needed.
